01

Start with your lifestyle

Choose how you want to live, not just the number of bedrooms. Think about year-round living, travel, outdoor space and the communities you would like nearby.

02

Build a realistic budget

Discuss purchase costs beyond the asking price with an independent Spanish lawyer and tax adviser. Costs depend on the property, your circumstances and whether it is a resale or a new build.

03

See the home and the area

Arrange viewings and spend time in the neighbourhood. Check access, everyday amenities, community facilities and how the area feels at different times of day.

04

Appoint independent advisers

Choose an independent lawyer before signing or paying a deposit. Ask them to review ownership, debts, permissions, community obligations and the contract. Ask about the identification, banking and NIE requirements that apply to you.

05

Plan completion and the move

Your lawyer and the notary will guide the legal completion process. Plan utility transfers, insurance and any ongoing property care before you collect the keys.

This guide is general information only, not legal, tax or financial advice. Requirements vary with individual circumstances and can change. Seek independent qualified advice before making commitments.
